"Evanescent," by Jorge Villegas.
El Dorado artists and educators Maria Botti Villegas
and Jorge Villegas
will show at Christ Church paintings and drawings that express their interpretations of their place in the universe. The show opens April 1.
A former dancer, Maria Villegas' work has always had movement and other theatrical elements. In the example above, Jorge Villegas shows a kinship with Joan Miro. From a Facebook post about the Christ Church show, "Interconnectedness":
In Maria's works, magnetic fields highlight the connections among elements of life. Brushstrokes applied layer after layer, are like a web of transparent luminosity.
Jorge sees the cosmos and planets as transformers of energy that create and express life as they continuously change. The Universe is part of everything and is an expression of unity.
There will be a reception for the artists on April 8, 2nd Friday Art Night, from 5:30-8 p.m. Christ Church is at 509 Scott St.
