The people of Pop Up in the Rock
will rock and pop tomorrow, rain or shine, on West Ninth Street,
to demonstrate what this venerable street could look like with forward-thinking development. The event runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Mosaic Templars Cultural Center
at Broadway and Izard, just past Little Rock Flag and Banner
, once a street that was hopping with all manner of African-American-owned businesses.
Popping up will be retail shops, an art gallery, a barber shop, a cafe, bake shop and beer garden. There will also be food trucks and something called a "drone zone." The HUB will demonstrate a 3D printer, AETN will show a trailer of the Dreamland Ballroom Documentary (part of the historic building in which Flag and Banner operates) and there will children's activities.
