Have a flair for culinary education? Then the Saline County Library wants you!

The library system is beginning a series of cooking classes, and they’re reaching out with a call for folks to teach the classes. A commitment of only one class per instructor is required, and the library will pay a $50 stipend to each instructor, as well as providing ingredients and facilities.

Class Description: Cooking classes will be held monthly on Monday or Thursday nights from 6:00pm- 7:30pm at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library. Participation will be limited to 20. Each class will focus on one recipe/dish selected by the instructor. The library will provide all ingredients and supplies necessary and compensate each instructor.

Responsibilities:
*Choose a recipe to demonstrate
     *Be sure to select a recipe appropriate for inexperienced cooks and can be taught in an hour.
*Provide the name and a description of the recipe and a supply list a month prior to the scheduled class.
*Demonstrate basic cooking techniques, and, when applicable, allow the participants to practice new techniques while providing feedback.
*When applicable, assign participants kitchen tasks that allow each individual to gain hands-on practice and improve their cooking skills

Time Commitment:
*Preparing for Class: ½ hour
*As previously mentioned, it is requested that instructors provide the library with a description of the recipe they plan to teach and a supply list for the class a month in advance.
*Teaching the Class: 2 1/2 hour time commitment
*Each class will run approximately 1 ½ hours from 6:00pm-7:30pm on Monday or Thursday nights. Instructors are requested to arrive ½ hour (5:30pm) in advance for set up & stay ½ hour post-class for questions and clean up.

Compensation:
*Instructors will receive a $50 stipend for each culinary class taught at the library. Individuals can teach one or multiple classes.

Equipment Available:
*2 ranges, Convection Oven, Refrigerator, 2 Food Warmers, Sink, Pots & Pans, Cooking Utensils
*Additional equipment/utensils needed will be purchased by the library
