Capers Restaurant out on Highway 10 was one of the first restaurants I ever reviewed for the Arkansas Times, and I’ve always considered it to be one of Little Rock’s most underrated restaurants. Well, I say “underrated,” but it looks like the American Culinary Federation thinks the place is just fine — they gave the place an award a couple of weeks ago. The ACF is one of the oldest and largest chef’s organizations in the country, so I think some congratulations are in order.
From the press release:
The American Culinary Federation, Inc. (ACF) honored Capers Restaurant at the 2014 ACF National Convention in Kansas City, Missouri, July 25-29, with an Achievement of Excellence Award.
Over 1,000 food service industry professionals attended the annual ACF event, which provided attendees with hands-on workshops, professional development opportunities, demonstrations, and the national awards ceremony.
“We could not be more excited to be nationally recognized by the ACF with an Achievement of Excellence Award,” said Ringgold. “As the only Arkansas restaurant to win an award this year, we are honored to represent our state nationally and to be ambassadors of central Arkansas’s culinary movement. There are so many great home-grown restaurants in Arkansas that are really raising the bar on creativity and focusing on locally grown products. We certainly appreciate being recognized by our peers for our commitment to our industry,” Ringgold said.
The award is given to restaurants that have been open for at least five consecutive years, that are established industry leaders, and that have shown a commitment to culinary and service excellence. The ACF considers nominations from local federation chapters, members, or other food service professionals.
Capers is also the recipient of the Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence 14 years running. Caper’s is a part of a family of restaurants including Cajun’s Wharf and Copper Grill, all of which hold three prestigious spots of the listing of only 10 Arkansas restaurants recognized by Wine Spectator magazine.
