It’s the first Thursday in August, which means folks will be socializing and shopping 5-8 p.m. along Kavanaugh in Hillcrest, where Gallery 26 will be offering both art and cookies. The gallery notes that new restaurant Kemuri is having an open house starting at 4 p.m. and will be serving beer, sushi and robata, which I had to look up: It’s food grilled over charcoal on skewers, which sounds a lot like shish kabobs to me. After you get all sake-d up, check out recent works by Arkansan-turned-Parisian Marcus McAllister (maybe you saw his work when he showed at the OA last summer) and assemblage artist Laura Fanning at the gallery.

Gallery 26 is at 2601 Kavanaugh Blvd.
