Lulav, the W. 6th Street eatery which has gone through a couple of names and menus since being sold by owner Matt Lile in 2013, is being relaunched as Lulav, with Lile in a consulting role.

Lile said the reboot will include old favorites, new menu items, an open wine cellar, more affordable entree options, longer kitchen hours, and a revamped drink menu. They’re open now, but they’ll have a grand opening next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Lile said.

“We [kept] some classic menu items that were kind of all-stars that people just really loved,” Lile said. “We have those on there, but we have some new contemporary dishes that are more with the times.” Old favorites like the mussels aribiatta will stay, along with a slightly tweaked version of their seabass in rosemary chardonnay butter.
Additions to the menu, Lile said, will be a number of “small plates” in the $12 to $14 range, including a panko-encrusted salmon, a barkeeper’s seasoned steak, and “street truck tacos,” with a choice of braised pork, blackened tilapia or marinaded chicken. There are also a number of new appetizers including rosemary/garlic pomme frites with a spicy ketchup. Lile said the kitchen is now open until 1 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to catch the lounge crowd.

If you’re not a nightowl, Lulav will also be open for lunch during the week. “We have half-a-dozen really nice sandwiches,” Lile said, “including a Cuban pork slider, which is fantastic, and a crab cake. It’s really the best crab cake in town, because we use more real lump crab meat than anybody else.”

On the libations side, Lile said there are quite a few changes. “We developed a whole new mixology menu for upper end cocktails,” Lile said. “We have a cotton candy cocktail. We have an ‘active volcano’ [cocktail] which is flaming. We have a Moscow mule which is served in a copper mug. We have a Godfather’s iced tea, which is out rendition of a Long Island, with a couple of different ingredients. We’ve got it going. It’s going to be very good.” Lulav will be offering their popular fresh fruit infused vodka martinis for $3 each all the time — they used to go for $7 — and diners will be able to take advantage of a new wine deal in which patrons can go into the wine cellar and select any bottle for $20 dollars. Lile said the Lulav grand opening will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday next week, and will feature a chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings. Normally, the price for the chef’s menu would be $69 each, but Lile said those who act fast can get in on a Groupon deal right now for only $29 bucks.
