New sculpture at Main Library

Just ran into sculptor Michael Warrick on the grounds of the Main Library, where he was installing a commissioned bronze work celebrating the library's 100th anniversary.  Warrick began work on the piece in 2010, which was actually the centennial year. Engraved on the piece are 46 translations of the word "celebrate." Included languages are Klingon and Pig Latin, in case you thought Warrick was getting too serious.

The sculpture, which you can see in the image above is in the shape of a top, does what tops do — it spins with the help of a push from the viewer.

There's still tilework to do on the base. The sculpture will be dedicated Friday, June 13, for the evening art tour 2nd Friday Art Night. "We're feeling lucky," Warrick said.
