Lawrence Finney, "Unknown Servant of the Lord," 2004.
Chicago artist Lawrence Finney,
whose exhibition "From a Whisper to a Conversation to a Shout"
at Hearne Fine Art
shows work "viewed through a biblical/Christian prism," will give a tour of the exhibition from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday
(April 11), and the gallery will be open until 8 p.m. for 2nd Friday Art Night.
Finney said his goal is to "reflect God's presence in the ordinary and everyday things of the natural world" with his work, which includes graphite pencil, charcoal, oil paint and wood assemblages. “I concentrated on subject matter of people from the streets of urban cities, rural life in the South and vaguely surreal settings," he says in a press release; "For heightened impact, I practiced expressive distortion of my figures, described as monumentally robust and of titanic strength, contrasted with gentle disposition and setting.”
Finney will give tours at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday
and from 1-5 p.m. Sunday
. Tours are free, but reservations are requested; call 372-6822 to reserve a spot.
