Little-known country singer and Kingsland, Ark.-native Johnny Cash has deep vaults of unreleased material, according to an article published online today by The Guardian. In an interview to promote "Out Among the Stars," Cash's lost early `80s record officially released yesterday, John Carter Cash claimed, "There are a few things that are in the works right now—probably four or five albums if we wanted to release everything. There may be three or four albums worth of 'American Recordings' stuff, but some of it may never see the light of day."

According to Rick Rubin, in the same article, “We released the work we had been planning to release along with John [Carter Cash] and the idea of the 'Unearthed' boxset of outtakes was his idea. We will probably put out additional 'Unearthed' material recorded since the last 'Unearthed' box, in keeping with John’s wishes.”

Of course, as Cash told the L.A. Times yesterday, "It has to be right. It has to stand out and it's got to be something unique. We won't want to put out just another Johnny Cash recording."
