James Taylor coming to the Verizon Arena in August

I remember noticing, at a certain age, how strange it was that my mom had so many James Taylor records. She had multiple copies of the same albums. Some still looked brand new, like she'd bought them just in case, as back-ups. Sometimes I'd find something I actually wanted, only to pull out the sleeve and find a James Taylor record inside. There was something almost pathological about it: Nobody needs more than one copy of "Sweet Baby James."

I was so young. What I didn't realize then — and I see this now — was that James Taylor is a national treasure. He deserves our respect, and now is your chance. The Verizon Arena has just announced he'll be in town the night of August 8. Tickets go on sale a week from today, on March 14, at 10 a.m., and range from $78-$99.50. And as if they saw this coming somehow, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra has planned a tribute called "Shower the People: The Music of James Taylor," which will be held at the Robinson Center Music Hall on May 3 at 8 p.m. and on May 4 at 3 p.m.
