Pianist Haskell Small
will perform "The Rothko Room: Journeys in Silence,"
a work inspired by the Rothko Chapel in Houston, at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Arts Center. Here parts of the composition here
Small, who appeared in the PBS special "A Celebration of the Piano" and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and the Spoleto Festival USA, will also perform pieces by Alan Hovhaness
during the hour-long program.
The program is in conjunction with the exhibit "Mark Rothko in the 1960s: The Decisive Decade,"
which includes works that strike a much lighter note than the dark chapel works. The exhibition runs through Feb. 9.
