Flat-earth folks and those who think evolution is just a theory will want to stay home, but the rest of us will surely find something fascinating in "The Evolving Universe"
exhibit on our galaxy and beyond, which opens tomorrow at the Laman Library. The photographic exhibit, developed by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the National Museum of Natural History, promises to take its viewers on "a mind-bending journey from Earth to the far reaches of space — back to the beginning of the universe about 13.6 billion years ago."
The exhibit includes the image above of the Helix Nebula, which is 700 light years from earth; as the exhibit explains, the light we see when we look at the nebula was produced in around 1311 AD. It sort of looks like it's looking back at us, right? Below: home sweet home.
