The Museum of Contemporary Art
(MOCA) in Hot Springs announced last week that it was closing and today sends out an email blast reminding folks to come by before the doors shut. The museum — which unlike commercial galleries has charged admission — couldn't make a go of things financially, according to reports in the Hot Springs Sentinel Record (which is behind a pay wall). Making a living selling art is hard enough; I'm guessing it's even harder to operate a ticketed operation on an avenue lined with galleries. Here's the blast:
We would like to remind all of you to stop by to see the museum one last time before our doors close permanently. We are so sad to see the museum go and thank you all for your support over the years. If you can try to make it downtown before October 26, 2013 to see the beautiful Ozark Bathhouse and MOCA Museum before our art is moved to a new home. Again thank you all and please continue to support the arts in Hot Springs.
Brittany and all of us at MOCA
I've got a call in to Brittany Jackson
, the director, to see where the new home is and will update when I can.
