The Oxford American announced yesterday that veteran bluesman and "king of the chitlin circuit" Bobby Rush will perform at its South on Main venue Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 1 at noon and they're $45. You'll be able to order them here.

Longtime King Biscuit Blues Festival fans are no doubt familiar with the legendary performer, as he plays the festival regularly. This show will be a chance to see Rush and his band (and, of course, the dancers) perform in an intimate indoors venue. Rush, who spent some formative years living in Pine Bluff, spoke to the OA back in April and had this to say about his strategy re. KBBF:

Every other year I play the main stage, and they pay me the big dollars to play the main stage. Yet every other year I play the acoustic stage, which is a smaller stage. It seems like I'm stepping back, but I'm not stepping back—I'm stepping up to the plate. You pay to see the main stage, but there are some people who want to see me who cannot afford to see me; they come to see me free at the acoustic stage. Every other year I play the acoustic stage, so people can come in free to see me. Then I'm giving back to my people, the people who just cannot afford to see me otherwise. They see me one-on-one.
