The new Children's Library and Learning Center is hosting an exhibit of some 50 photographs by six pre-teens and teens whose lives have been impacted by having a parent in prison or immigration detainment, an event that is the capstone project of Maggie Carroll of the Clinton School for Public Service in partnership with the non-profit Arkansas Voices for the Children Left Behind.
There will be a reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 6; children who participated will talk about their photographs. The project was designed to give the children a form of expression and as a demonstration that they are valued in the community. The photo above (by Maria Velasquez) reminded me of Linda Palmer's drawings that have been touring the state in the "Champion Trees" exhibition; the light falling on the top of the tree makes it a splendid photo. Congratulations to Velasquez.
The Children's Library is at 4800 W. 10th St., off Jonesboro Drive.
