Luella and the Sun deliver "Sign of the Judgement"

The latest installment of "Live at Fellowship Hall Sound," our video series collaboration with Greg Spradlin and Camp Friday Films, spotlights a band that seems destined for fame in the future — Nashville's Luella and the Sun, who're fresh off SXSW, where they drew raves from NPR and others.

The locals who caught the album release party for Isaac Alexander's "Antevenin Suite" in December know what's up. Luella and the Sun guitarist Joe McMahan engineered "Antevenin Suite," so Luella and the Sun came to support Alexander. They killed. Lead singer Melissa Mathes has a weird, strong voice and tons of charisma. Everyone else, I think, is a heavyweight Nashville session player. They're doing something in the Dirtbombs/early-Gossip vein, but with more R&B-influence (killer drum breaks, for example).

Luella and the Sun return to White Water Tavern on April 11. Save the date.
