As hard as this is to believe, it's already time to start the call for entries for the 2013 Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase.
We received a ton of entries last year and we're looking forward to hearing everything this fine state has to offer for this next showcase as well. As far as musical styles go, it's wide open, so why not throw caution to the wind and enter?
After all, it could be the ideal opportunity to unveil your genre-eschewing, pan-global, all-slide-whistle instrumental grindcore orchestra. That is definitely the kind of thing we want to hear. Or perhaps you've been dying to book a show for your solo ambient electro-gospel project. Hell yeah, we wanna hear that too.
Here are the caveats: You must be based in Arkansas and you must have enough original material to play for 20-25 minutes. We'll need four tracks to evaluate. No cover songs allowed. We'll pare down the entries to a field of 20 semifinalists, four of which will square off each week at Stickyz on Jan. 24 and 31, and Feb. 7, 14 and 21. The winners of each semifinal round will face off at the finals at the Rev Room on Friday, March 1. If you want to enter, please, please try not to have any scheduling conflicts on any of those dates. Cool? Alright.
You can enter here or check upcoming print editions of the Times for an entry form you can mail in with a CD. The deadline is Jan. 7.
We'll have more information on the prize package in the coming weeks. Got any questions? Email me at robertbell at arktimes dot com and I'll help you out.
