Bonnie Montgomery to tour with Gossip

This is how fame's supposed to work: You blow up and then use your pull to lift up talented folks you knew back before you were famous. That's what Gossip, the three-piece that's two-thirds from Arkansas, is doing on its upcoming U.S. tour. They're bringing along Little Rock's favorite opera-composing, folk-rocking chanteuse, Bonnie Montgomery for their run of dates along the coasts in September and October.

Like Gossip's Beth Ditto and Nathan Howdeshell (AKA Brace Paine), Montgomery hails from White County. She and Howdeshell graduated in the same class from Searcy High School. They've been collaborating in Little Rock in the last year or so and will play as a duo on the tour. Howdeshell's the man in black in the video above. His label, Fast Weapons, will release her debut EP, a three-song release that'll come as a 7" or a CD (with a digital download code) or as a digital download. It includes the songs "Cruel", "Zydeco" and "Crossroads."

A delay at the plant that's pressing the vinyl delayed a scheduled release party last weekend. Montgomery said today that she's hopeful she'll have the 7" before the tour kicks off Sep. 24 in Washington, D.C., but she doesn't know if there will be time to do a release party.
