After Grant Wood

A second work by Devorah Sperber, creator of the "Last Supper" installation in the Wonder World exhibition last winter at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, is now in the 20th century gallery: "After Grant Wood." Like "Last Supper," the Grant Wood painting ("American Gothic") has been recreated out of spools of thread and flipped on its head so that it can be seen through a prism installed in front of the work.

Also re-installed in the 20th century gallery are Nick Cave's "Soundsuit," Evan Penny's "Old Self: Portrait of the Artist as He Will (Not) Be, Variation No. 2," and Tom Uttech's "Enassamishhinjijweian."

Coming Aug. 29: A collection of photogravures made by Edward Curtis during his 1926 visit to Oklahoma. It appears to be the exhibit, "Gathering Fragments: Edward S. Curtis in Oklahoma," shown in 2009 at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art of the University of Oklahoma in Norman. A description of that show said the work, from Curtis' "North American Portfolio," includes 75 photos of multiple tribes, including the Comanche, Cheyenne, Otoe and Wichita.
