Virmarie DePoyster sends notice that art by fifth graders she worked with at Park Hill Elementary on the Conservation Sign Project at Lake Campbell near Cook’s Landing will be unveiled at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4.
The project was designed to teach the kids about animals and ecosystems in a way they will always remember. (Like everyone who had Mrs. Horton at Forest Heights Elementary can tell you about the piece of art they enacted in “Living Pictures.” Mine: “Strawberry Girl” by Sir Joshua Reynolds. Indelible.)
DePoyster says on her Facebook page that she worked with North Little Rock Park Ranger Kate Finefield, who talked to the children about the animals and their habitat. DePoyster worked with the students for six weeks on how to draw and paint with oil pastels.
As you can see at left, the result is wonderful.
