If you ever wanted to star in "Cabaret," here's your opportunity: Argenta Community Theater will be producing the musical next summer. Auditions are Jan. 8-9.

For the nonprofit venue's first locally produced musical, organizers have brought in Arkansas Repertory Theatre director Bob Hupp to helm the production, along with Kurt Kennedy, music director at North Little Rock First United Methodist's choir to be the vocal coach. Several other local music and theatre professionals round out the crew.

The full press release with audition details is included after the jump.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE AUDITION DATES AND PRODUCTION SCHEDULE HAVE BEEN CAREFULLY SELECTED TO ALLOW RETURNING COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM ALL PARTS OF ARKANSAS TO PARTICIPATE.

CABARET was chosen for the first ACT production because it features a very strong story with a smaller cast and the Sally Riggs Insalaco Theater will be transformed to a “cabaret” like atmosphere to feature the facility. Opening night will be a dinner, show and fundraiser for the Argenta Community Theater. ACT will then be converted to traditional theater seating for the Friday — Sunday shows.

People auditioning should wear clothes that they can move in and be prepared to sing 32 bars from a song similar to the show format. Scripts will be provided for auditions, prepared monologues are not necessary.
The rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions but all rehearsals will be held in the evenings or weekends. For additional questions, please email Kyla Bryant, ACT Executive Director at: kbryant@argentacommunitytheater.com
