Former Times scribe Gerard Matthews recently spent a week with Lucero at Ardent Studios in Memphis. The band is working on its follow-up to 2009’s “1372 Overton Park,” and Matthews, as many of you know, is working on a book about the band.

While at Ardent, he interviewed members of the band for the first Lucero Family Podcast. The name is a nod to the band’s annual festival, the Lucero Family Picnic.

Lucero front man Ben Nichols talks about the new album and plays an acoustic version of “Who You Waitin’ On” from the forthcoming album.
