In Hillcrest, it's Harvestfest starting in the morning with a Bird Walk and 5k and a pancake breakfast, plus kids activities starting around 11 a.m. Then there are the food vendors who will be selling everything from fried fish to kettle corn, barbecue to tacos. And of course, all the local restaurants will be open with their great food. I'll be heading out there to judge the cheese dip contest — the competitors will be cooking between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and tasting is between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. It's $2 to taste the cheese dips. More information available on the website.
Over in the Heights, it's time for Chili Fights in the Heights. This afternoon and evening event will pit 30 teams in friendly competition with each other to see who comes up with the most favorable chili. Big Silver will perform. Cooking starts at 2 p.m.; tasting begins at 5 p.m. and attendees can pick up tasting kits for $2 from the Arkansas Foodbank Network. More information over at the event website.
