Don’t get me wrong — I adore what the Certified Arkansas Farmers Market folks are attempting. I’m all behind Argenta Market and I’m really hoping Hardin Farms works out well.

But I want to know why we can’t accomplish this.

What you see above is a front-end shot of Windmill Market out in Fairhope, AL. A while back I visited the place while on a trip in the area. I was impressed. It’s a former car dealership that’s been converted into an indoor-outdoor market complete with solar panel energy, generous composting, rainwater collection and a site to charge your electric car off the windmill’s juice.

The place also includes Westside Grocery, which acquires its merchandise through local farmers, bakers and producers. There’s a barbecue joint. And there are artists and craftspeople and farmers who come out each week and sell their wares.

Does it sound like the sort of place we should have here in Central Arkansas? I think so. Read more over at Tie Dye Travels.
