Another weekend art event: Low Key Arts opens "So Many Open Houses," installations in the empty rooms of Hot Springs' historic Mountainaire Hotel, 1100 Park Ave., for a two-day run on Friday and Saturday.
Low Key Arts said nearly 40 visual artists took part in the project, which it hopes will "shine some positive light on a neighborhood blemish" as well as give artists an unusual venue in which to work.
The art moderne Mountainaire, on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1947. It eventually was turned into apartments and later a nursing home. It has been vacant since the mid-1990s. The Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas has listed the Mountainaire as one of Arkansas’ Most Endangered Places.
“So Many Open Houses” is also a fund-raiser for Low Key: Suggested donation at the door is $5. Exhibit hours are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.
Creative thinking deserves rewards; hope Low Key pulls folks in with this one.
