FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
COMING TO THE ROBINSON CENTER IN LITTLE ROCK, AR, FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY ON SEPT. 12TH, 2011
"AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER" PARANORMAL DOCUMENTARY GARNERS RAVE REVIEWS FROM CRITICS AND ATTENDEES ON EXPERIMENTAL NATIONAL TOUR, WHICH FEATURES THE STARS OF A&E'S HIT SERIES, "PARANORMAL STATE".
AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER Director and Co-Executive Producer Chad Calek and Ryan Buell bypass servicing Calek's stunning autobiographical documentary to distributors and film festivals in favor of a 61-city national tour that redefines the movie-going experience.
AUGUST, 12TH, 2011 - LOS ANGELES, CA - Paranormal Investigator Ryan Buell, the star and executive producer of A&E’s hit reality show Paranormal State, announced on January 9th, 2011 that he would not be returning for a 6th season of the franchise. Instead, Buell and Chad Calek, the co-star and director of Paranormal State, would focus their efforts on bringing Calek’s autobiographical documentary, AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER, to the masses.
Calek burst onto the national scene during season 2 of Paranormal State, where his “colorful” language and intense approach to ghost hunting made him an instant fan favorite. But it was the journey that led Calek to Paranormal State that soon brought several offers to buy the rights to Calek’s life story, including an offer from A&E to turn his story into a two-part, one hour special of Paranormal State.
While the offers were financially lucrative, they all denied Calek the creative control needed to ensure his family’s story would be accurately told, causing him to turn down all offers. Inspired by Calek’s story and believing it needed to be told, Buell instead offered to financially back the film, which Calek accepted, giving him the control needed to ensure the integrity of the film.
“To be honest, it was very easy to turn those offers down, regardless of the financial rewards. My family’s ability to trust that I could personally ensure that our story would be accurately told was the most important aspect of the entire process,” said Calek.
The AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER documentary chronicles Calek’s return to his hometown of Persia, IA, where he assembled a team of the nation’s top paranormal investigators (including Buell), in an attempt to not only unravel the mysteries behind his family’s haunting, but to bring an end to the 20-year reign of suffering endured by the Calek family due to an overwhelming amount of negative paranormal activity unlike anything ever before documented in 130 years of paranormal research. Each stop of the AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER tour includes not only a screening of the documentary, but also a meet and greet with entire cast of the film, two paranormal evidence presentations, a post-screening Q&A with the cast and much more.
The concept of the national tour came to Calek after he and Buell hosted a standing room only debut screening of the film during a paranormal conference at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO nearly two years ago.
"There was a connection the audience made with the film that brought forth this incredible outpouring of emotion that left over half the crowd literally in tears," said Calek. "To be a part of something that pure and intimate was a truly powerful experience. It was an opportunity that I felt we should offer to as many people as we possibly could."
Buell agreed with Calek and loved the idea of a groundbreaking tour that was as unique as the film itself. Shortly after, AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER: THE TOUR, which would span 61 total cities, was announced and broken up into three legs (summer, fall and winter), with tickets to each leg being offered exclusively on the film's website (www.aghthemovie.com).
With their only promotional tools being Twitter, Facebook and “word of mouth”, the response to the tour was overwhelming, confirming Calek and Buell’s belief that the online viral buzz of AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER (500,000 collective views of trailers and promo clips) would translate into a legitimate movie-going experience that would be attended by thousands of fans across the country.
Starting in Long Beach, CA, on June 2nd and ending on June 18th in San Antonio, TX, the cast of AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER, which consists of Calek and Buell, as well as renowned paranormal investigators Justin Holstein, Mary Beth Wylie, Joe Ansley and Sergey Poberezhny, had completed the summer leg of the AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER TOUR, with each stop providing rave reviews from both attendees and the press.
"I can honestly tell you that I've never seen anything like this before," said Bill Murphy, star of SyFy's hit paranormal debunking show Fact or Faked, after viewing AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER at The Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. "If this movie comes to a city near you... you have to go see it."
After attending the Las Vegas AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER summer tour event, CFM Entertainment News reporter Suzanne Philips wrote, "This documentary is important. Even those who are skeptics will find that the true story of Calek's quest is so much more than a ghost story."
And the positive reviews continued throughout the tour, right up to the final summer tour stop in San Antonio, TX, where 96.1 KXXM Radio DJ Russell Rush stated, "I left wanting more and wishing I had the courage to be this honest. Chad and crew prove once and for all that reality is more frightening than fiction."
On August 19th at the legendary Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, CA, the legend of AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER will grow once again, as the Roosevelt event kicks off the fall leg of the AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER tour, which will span 25 cities over the course of 31 days, taking Calek, Buell and the entire cast of AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER to such venues as the Seattle Space Needle in Seattle, WA, The U.S.S. Hornet Naval Battleship in Alameda, CA and The Warwick Hotel in Manhattan, NYC, just to name a few.
With a new city every single night, the touring has been taxing on the cast. But as Calek explains, it’s a labor of love. “It’s about doing something inspiring with your life and hopefully inspiring others. There’s a lot of ‘hype’ around what we’re doing. But I think to those attending the tour are seeing that it’s deserved,” says Calek. “This is a special process and a special film.”
Judging from reviews from attendees, the press and stars of other hit television shows, such as Robb Demarest, star of the SyFy series Ghost Hunters International (which is a direct competitor of Paranormal State), AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER is in fact living up to the hype.
"AMERICAN GHOST HUNTER was the most honest and moving documentary I have ever seen," said Demarest. "I was floored. Simply amazing."
