The Miss Arkansas pageant crowns a new Miss Arkansas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at the Hot Springs Convention Center. It costs $10 to attend. The winner will clearly not be able to live up to the current and surely greatest Miss Arkansas, Alyse Eady. But based on the Miss Arkansas contestant webpage, I’ve picked out a couple who have potential.
One trend this year: Clogging as a talent. Miss Greater Little Rock Sagan Shipe, Miss Greater Jacksonville Amber Gross and Miss Dogwood Dalia Garrison will all be making the music with their feet. Similarly maybe, Miss Lake Dardanelle Kathryn Holcomb is doing Irish step dance and Miss Ouachita River Sloan Roberts is doing something called Acapella Tap Dance.
My favorite platforms:
“Inspire Your Think: Motivating Teen Writers,” Miss Johnson County Natalie Grove
“Keeping It Natural” Miss Cotton Belle Hannah Billingsley
“Bullying: “It’s Not Okay!” Miss Southeast Arkansas Hannah Brickey
“Matters of the Heart” Miss Arkansas Valley Lauren English
“Putting Fizz Into Fitness” Miss Magnolia Elizabeth Liberty
But, if I had to put money on someone, I’d go with Miss Ouachita Baptist University Kristen Glover (above, left). She’s got the look and she’s done well in preliminary rounds.
