The boyhood home of Johnny Cash in Dyess is in sorry shape, but you can help win $25,000 to save it, and all it takes is a few minutes and an online vote!
Beth Wiedower, director of the Arkansas Delta Rural Heritage Development Initiative and all-around historic-preservation superwoman, recently passed along news that the Cash home is one of 100 historic structures nationwide which have been selected for the National Trust for Historic Preservation's "This Place Matters" competition.
The historic site that gets the most votes by the time the contest closes on June 30 wins $25,000 toward its renovation. ASU purchased the dilapidated, 75-year old house for $100,000 in April, and is trying to raise funds to restore it. A fund-raising concert is scheduled for August.
