Little Rock Film Festival
Last night, the Little Rock Film Festival, June 1-5, announced the core of its competition line-up.

We'll update this post later with links and trailers, but on first glance, the Arkansas program looks most exciting, which is really a testament to the development of the film scene.

*You've got last year's Charles B. Pierce winner Daniel Campbell back with a new film, "The Orderly."

*"Slow Southern Steel," the excellent-looking Southern metal doc from CT from Rwake.

*Two that the Times' own David Koon helped pen, Bryan Stafford's "Ballerina" and Gerry Bruno's "Seven Souls." Watch the trailer for "Seven Souls" here.

*Collin Buchanan and Levi Agee's "Cotton County Boys."

*Tim Wistrand's promising "The Natural State of America" about an environmental battle in Carroll County.

And those are just the ones I've heard about.

The festival plans to announce two additions to the line up each week for the rest of the month. Last night's announcement: a special 20th anniversary screening of Little Marines, the awesomely bad kidz flick filmed in Saline County and starring Steve Landers Jr. (whose acting career is still going strong in the "Office"-biting Landers commercials) and our man Graham Gordy. Swag. (Can we say that now?)

Hopefully we'll hear word over the next few weeks about the most notable absence from last night's announcement, Take Shelter," Jeff Nichols' second film that's taking the Arkansan to Cannes' illustrious "Critics Week."

Here's a link to the full list of the Arkansas Program, the World Shorts Program and the World Narrative and Documentary Features.
