BAD VEINS

Hot Springs is popping tonight with the experimental indie-rockers of Bad Veins playing Maxine's with Rolling Stone, NPR and Steve Jones (of Sex Pistols) approved Tristen and local eclectica from The Walking Lawsuits, 8 p.m., $5.

Also, right up the street on Central Ave., Valley of the Vapors continues with another NPR darling act, Lost in the Trees, whose disarming, Sufjan-esque symphonics brought widespread acclaim at SXSW, and Grandchildren, an experimental tribal-folk act from Philadelphia, 8 p.m., $5, all ages.

Tongue-in-cheek metal act Valient Thorr shreds it up at Revolution with the omnipresent locals of Iron Tongue and the excellently named Cerebral Ballzy, 9 p.m., $8 adv., $10 d.o.s.

A mainstay in local speakers, Cory Branan returns to White Water Tavern with an excellent, organic slowrock act from Portland, Weinland, 10 p.m.

Stickyz gets loud and wobbly with Thrill Jockey Records' volume-rockers White Hills, crossover metal act Liturgy, psychedelic prog throwback act Birds of Avalon, 8:30 p.m., $8.

And, at the ACAC, electronic pop prevails with the self-described "goth prep" of Class Actress, laid back, atmospheric pop from Million Young, abrasive, Lisa Frank-loving post-punk from Fayetteville's Color Club and the hyper, acoustic rock of Brooklyn's Fletcher C. Johnson. 8 p.m., $10. (This one's my official pick o' the night.)

And Downtown Music Hall goes ham with metal from The Funeral Pyre, The Secret and Shadowvein, 8 p.m., $8.
