An Exhibits USA offering, "Southern Journeys: African American Artists of the South," work by 55 artists, opens today at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, Ninth and Broadway. With the Templars' own collection, blogged about here Tuesday, "Southern Journeys" should give a rich picture of regional art by the best Arkansas and the South — and beyond — have to offer. The South can claim a huge number of important artists;
"Southern Journeys" includes works by Romare Bearden, David Driskell, Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett, Hughie Lee-Smith, Leroy Allen, Benny Andrews, Radcliffe Bailey, Richmond Barthé, Beverly Buchanan, Clementine Hunter, Faith Ringgold, Charles White and Dean Mitchell. (Don't know Nina Buxembaum, but am taken with her work, above.) Check it out this afternoon at the opening reception 5-7 p.m.; Rodney Block and the Music Lovers will provide entertainment.
