Mosaic Templars Cultural Center has been collecting art by African-American Arkansans for a couple of years, thanks to a $50,000 Natural and Cultural Resources Grant, and an article written by the Mosaic Templars staff in this week's print version of the Times offers details about the 42 works of art, including the latest acquisitions, unveiled Dec. 31, 2010.

The 21 new acquisitions, part of the "Creativity Arkansas Art Collection," include work by 14 artists: Ariston Jacks, Alonzo Ford, Brian Massey, Gerhardt, John Howard, Sylvester McKissack, Ed Wade, George Hunt, Henri Linton, Larry Wade Hampton, LaToya Hobbs, Ollie Humphrey, Aj Smith and Angela Green. Artists whose work was unveiled in 2009 include Kevin Cole, Tarrence Corbin, Rex Deloney, McKissack, Euneda Otis, Charly Palmer, Smith, Susan Williams, Ernest Withers, Michael Worsham and Marjorie Williams-Smith. (Withers was not an Arkansan, but his photograph captures events during the desegregation of Central High School.)

Garbo Hearne, the only dealer in Little Rock who focuses entirely on African-American art, is advising the Cultural Center. Entrance to MTCC is free.
