The Thea Foundation announced today that it will award two Creative Writing Scholarships this year. High school students may compete for the awards by writing a short story using Thea Leopoulos' artwork (see above) as inspiration. First place will receive $3,000 and second place $2,000; awards go directly to the colleges when students enroll full-time.

Whitby, by the way, was a shipbuilder in Yorkshire; Capt. Cook sailed their tall ships around the world. If Thea had drawn the Essex, we might have gotten a new "Moby Dick," but Cook's adventures should hold plenty of material.
