Avery, Wyeth, and maybe a Rockwell

Eye Candy communicants stvj and rfg55 mentioned in comments to the previous post some works being auctioned by Christie's Dec. 1 that they'd like to see at Crystal Bridges as well, so I decided I'd post images of a couple of them. I also got an e-mail from Sotheby's on its American art sale, which follows Christie's by a day, and saw — don't laugh — a Rockwell sketch that would be, I think, a good fit in a museum in Arkansas. See pix below:

Pink Nude
  • "Pink Nude"

One of stvj's picks, Milton Avery's "Pink Nude," an oil on canvas board, is getting an estimated bid price of between 70k and 100k. It's being sold from a private collection.

Roses by the Sea
  • "Roses by the Sea"

The Avery I would like to see in the collection is "Roses by the Sea." Unusual composition and subject matter.

Wyeths Shredded Wheat
  • Wyeth's "Shredded Wheat"

Rfg55 liked Wyeth's watercolor and pencil "Shredded Wheat," which is also getting an estimated bid of 70k to 100k, and is being sold by a private collector.

Now, for the Sotheby's pix:

Study for The Problem We All Have
  • Study for "The Problem We All Have"

No need to explain why this nice study for a painting, which Sotheby's expects to sell between 150k and 250k, would be a nice addition to an Arkansas museum.

But is Alice Walton still purchasing works from this period, or has she moved on to living artists?
