So here I am in New York city, sitting with a sick relative in the NYU Medical Center. Lunch? Turns out the 2nd Ave. Deli is just a three-block walk (though it's not on 2nd Avenue, but on Thirty-third Street.)
What you see here is the triple decker — turkey, center-cut tongue, pastrami and cole slaw on rye with Russian dressing. It comes with a big dish of vinegary slaw and pickles — sour, half-sour and a pickled tomato.
Even for me it was too much. The waitress packed some more pickles and bread to take home with the uneaten half. So that made the $22 price a pretty good deal. Lunch and dinner. Oh, and they whipped up a gratis egg cream — chocolate syrup, milk and seltzer — as a sweet finish.
I heart New York.
