ISBELL: Live at Revolution

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are a solid band. And, as such, they put on a pretty solid show last night at the Rev Room. Matt Stell and the Crashers, standouts at this years Arkansas Times Musicians' Showcase, opened with their own brand of swamp rock, playing before a small Wednesday night crowd. People started to filter in as Isbell took the stage and rocked through a set of tunes from his two solo albums, Sirens of the Ditch and the self-titled Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. There were even a few Isbell-penned Drive-by Truckers songs thrown into the mix. After coming out for an encore, the band finished off the night with a rollicking version of Springsteen's "Atlantic City" that had everyone in the room stomping their feet or bobbing their heads in time.

Isbell must have been less-than-pleased with the size of the crowd. In the wee hours this morning he tweeted, "Sometimes it seems like nobody gives a shit." Followed quickly by, "But you can't blame the folks that show up for the ones that don't." The place wasn't packed by any stretch of the imagination, but Rev's a big room and it seemed like a pretty decent-sized crowd for a Wednesday night. Of course, it's possible that the Truckers show scheduled for Friday might have hurt attendance a bit. Casual DBT fans who had to pick between the two shows probably saved their dough for Friday night.
