Benton is just not known for its sports bars. This I can say with some confidence. So having Touchdown Sally’s along Interstate 30 is definitely a windfall. We’re not talking too-smoky-to-breathe sort of sports bar. No, Touchdown Sally’s makes a point of being very family friendly. Which is good… when you’re checking out a new restaurant and you have a toddler with you.
We stopped in a short while back and gave a few of the dishes a try. We were in a sampling mood -- and our waiter suggested we try an appetizer trio -- which isn’t on the menu, but sounded good to us, three choices off the appetizer menu we’d try together. We went for the mini tacos, mini egg rolls, and cream cheese stuffed peppers. These were all pretty good, but what made them great were the served up sauces -- Ranch dip, a sweet sesame seed-studded sauce for the egg rolls and a spicy salsa type dip for the mini tacos. Not bad.
But what we really enjoyed was the Playmaker’s Platter ($14.95), a nice array of fried seafood and such. On the platter we found fried shrimp, fried catfish, fried crawfish, fried oysters, hush puppies and onion rings, served up with cole slaw, cocktail sauce and a bowl of gumbo. Instead of the gumbo, we ended up with some of the house chili, a beef based beanless chili worthy of competition. Very good.
We didn’t get the chance to try one of the 1/3 pound burgers or any of the pizzas… but that’s another reason to go back. You’ll find Touchdown Sally’s on the southwest bound I-30 access road. Take the Congo Road exit to get there. They’re now open for lunch with a nice selection of sandwiches and salads. You can call (501) 778-9444 or check out the restaurant’s website.
