Great article in the latest Arkansas Business
by erstwhile Times
contributor Robert Bell about Arkansas music festivals.
Music tourism doesn't account for much in terms of people, but dollars are another story.
In 2009, about 2 percent of visitors to Arkansas went to a rock or pop concert, according to a report by Longwoods International, a marketing research and consulting firm.
While that number might not seem significant, these visitors spent nearly $107.6 million in the state.
Bell checks in with Wakarusa and the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Fest and the Valley of the Vapors and finds that, at least with the former two, all signs point to big jumps in attendance in 2010.
His piece hints at big names coming to King Biscuit. BB King's already been confirmed
. And I've heard whispers of Levon Helm
and Buddy Guy
. The festival's set to announce in May.
