Daily Digest: Jon Hamm talks (a lot), 'Julie & Julia' is just as half good as you expected and more

Only ten days until I'll be forced to hike down the block to watch the premiere of season three of "Mad Men" because UVerse doesn't yet have its shit together enough to offer AMC (AMC!). Anyway, for those who need a pre-premiere fix, Jon Hamm chats, jovially and with a fair amount of cursing, with Vanity Fair and, if you've really got time to kill, for 45 minutes on Bill Simmons' ESPN podcast.

A.O. Scott, reviewing in the New York Times, confirms what you probably suspected: Meryl Streep shines as Julia Child in "Julie & Julia," but the premise is flawed. Who wants to spend half a movie with "an insecure, enterprising young woman [Amy Adam's Julie Powell] who found a gimmick and scored a book contract," when she's competing with "a figure of such imposing cultural stature that her pots and pans are displayed at the Smithsonian?"

Also, in more A.O. Scott news, he and the Tribune's Michael Phillips are taking over the seats made famous by Siskel and Ebert on "At the Movies."

LaToya Jackson has absconded with unreleased Michael Jackson songs.

Dammit, Torii Hunter is now not coming to Dickey-Stephens this weekend, Ark. Sports 360 reports.
