Like Mumford noted earlier today on Max's blog, Bill Frisell has a new album out today on Nonesuch called "Disfarmer." It's a tribute to the posthumously celebrated Heber Springs photographer Mike Disfarmer, who's eerie Depression era photos have been widely anthologized and exhibited over the last 30 years.

Frisell talked to NPR about his aim for the album.

"What was he thinking? What did he see? We'll never know, but as I write the music, I'd like to imagine it coming from his point of view. The sound of him looking through the lens."

The material on "Disfarmer" should be familiar to those who caught Frisell's live performance at Hendrix in 2007. Disfarmer's photos were projected while the guitarist played. As they do on the album, Jenny Scheinman (violin) and Greg Leisz (various guitars and pedal steel) accompanied Frisell. Read Charlie James review of the show here.
