Saturday: Deer Tick

Providence's Deer Tick crawled into Little Rock Saturday on the sixth night of a national tour in support of their second album, "Born of Flag Day." Lead Tick John McCauley III focused heavily on the new material, staying true to original versions of album highlights "Easy," "Hell on Earth" and "Art Isn’t Real."

The band took more artistic liberties with  material from their first album, "War Elephant," performing a stripped down version of "Dirty Dishes" complete with four-part harmony.  "These Old Shoes," "Ashamed," "Baltimore Blues" and "Nevada" also made the set list.  Deer Tick peppered the show with covers, during which McCauley lent his raw voice to Lightening Hopkins’ "Bring Me My Shotgun," and Tom Petty songs. They closed the show with Ritchie Valens’ "La Bamba."

The packed crowd at Sticky Finger’s remained enthusiastic throughout the roughly two hour set despite the intense heat inside.

Editor's note: I was at the lake getting pickled pink all weekend until late Sunday evening. Anyone catch the Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa concert? The sun ruined my plans to catch it.
