The Weekend: Cornerstone's Sixth Anniversary

Relative newcomers to the scene Whale Fire opened the second night of Cornerstone’s sixth year anniversary bash on Saturday with danceable, indie-pop tunes. With a sound similar to Kings of Leon, they had toes tapping and heads bobbing from all social corners of the bar. The Chris Denny band then took the stage to perform some of their Little Rock classics, getting the crowd stirred up and a few couples dancing country-style in front of the stage. Headliners Riverboat Crime topped the night off with a sleazy Southern sound reminiscent of New Orleans or Memphis, especially when front man Josh Stoffer set his guitar in his lap and tore across it with a metal slide. Three great sounds from these three bands kept the birthday bash attitude alive all through the night and had some reluctant to leave at closing time. —Stacey Bowers
