Famed soul act Archie Bell and the Drells, famous for the song "Tighten Up," are in town this week making a commercial, for Energy Efficiency Arkansas. Tonight, they'll make a free appearance in the lobby of the Peabody at 8 p.m. All are welcolme.

Popular alt-rockers Egypt Central headline Juanita's Thursday with help from Kind and Altus Pocket, 9 p.m., $10 adv., $12 d.o.s.

At White Water, a songwriters' tour that's been underway for the last month or so touches down at home, at least for Chris Denny. He shares the bill with tavern favorite Graham Wilkinson and Austin singer/songwriter Danny Malone, 9 p.m., $5.

From Douglasville, Ga., the Chariot plays a hardcore style of metal (or metalcore) at the Village, with the Showdown, 8 p.m., $10 adv., $12 d.o.s.

As it does now once a month, the city's finest jazz trio, the Ted Ludwig Jazz Trio, starts its night at the Capital Bar before moving to the Afterthought, 8:30 p.m., $5.
