Max Recordings, tweaking a regular feature in Mojo, has a new series going called “12 Songs That Changed My Life.” It’s a simple set-up. In each edition, one label artist picks 12 songs that he plays and discusses. Kevin Kerby and Bobby Matthews (Trusty) went first and second, respectively, with a mix of obscure and familiar stuff (here the Replacements, there Deep Ellum). Now, just up, there’s a new one from Rock Candy homie Charles Wyrick (Boondogs, Easys, Jim Mize, Western Meds), who pretty much keeps it obscure. There are lots of songs in here I’ll be investigating further. “Kidney Bingos” is the jam of the day.
