There's a new record store in town.
Circa '76 opened about two weeks ago at 1910 West Third, immediately adjacent to Warehouse Liquor and the Italian Couple. The store sits in a building that looks like it used to house an insurance agency or a funeral home. My camera went out before I could get an outside shot.
As you'll see in the video above, the stock's pretty thin — largely just from owner Joey Lucas's collection — but you gotta start somewhere. That's how Anthro-Pop began, a longtime Little Rocker reminded me yesterday.
Lucas' primary focus seems to be supporting local music. Which is great. From what I've heard it's a huge hassle to get in at Barnes and Noble and Best Buy. Since Anthro-Pop closed, we've lacked a central spot to find a broad selection of local releases.
Lucas is also using the space to host concerts, and he's rented part of it to a local producer. As he says in the video, he's got a lot of room to expand, too.
The store's open Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
The phone number is 398-1408.
The next show is Thurs., Jan. 22 with
Coats and Villa,
The See,
Frown Pow'r and
Fashion Show. 8 p.m., $5. All ages. No booze.
