The Hop has taken a leap into plate lunches and pies with the addition to its kitchen of Sheri Mills, late of Pie Heaven in the River Market (and Lunch at the Legion and Andina’s before that). Great meatloaf, real mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans cooked with bacon and almost all the sweet iced tea in China for $7 — what a deal. The Hop is also serving Mills’ scratch tomato bisque and broccoli-cheese soups and chili. Mills’ first week specials included spaghetti, hamburger steak and chicken enchilada plates; for dessert, peanut butter, chocolate mousse, lemon icebox, apple, oreo and pecan pies, and banana and chocolate pudding. Talk about comfort! For the health conscious (at the Hop?), she’s introduced fruit cups and quiche. The Hop still serves its trademark big burgers and fries, of course. 201 E. Markham St. 244-0975.
