Wal-Mart to strike death blow to already dying music industry

Following a precipitous drop in CD sales in the first month of the fourth quarter, Wal-Mart is planning to "rapidly downsize" shelf space for CDs, according to a report in Home Media magazine. The chain is now likely only to focus on exclusive releases, like AC/DC's "Black Ice & No Bull" and its online store.

Until earlier this year, when it was supplanted by iTunes, Wal-Mart had long sold a larger percentage of music than any other retailer. Paired with the potential bankruptcy of Circuit City, this doesn't portend anything but more doom and gloom for the industry.
