Lucero and Little Rock's Ben Nichols.
After releasing its last two albums via a distribution deal with Warner Bros., but on its own Liberty & Lament imprint, Lucero's
now gone all in with the majors, signing a four album deal with Universal/Republic.
Here's how guitarist Brian Venable explained the move:
“I think it just got to that point. Everybody [who reaches that level] tries it eventually. We’re just hoping for that one two-three month major-label push — the press, the ads in all the magazines, hopefully get on some soundtracks. We’ve been doing this for 10 years. I’ve got a baby on the way. Everyone was like: What the hell, let’s take a shot. It’s not like we’re going to break up.”
The band recently recorded demos at Young Avenue Sound studios. With horns!
Sometime in Dec. or Jan. the band plans to cut its next album at Sweet Tea in Oxford with producer Dennis Herring (Elvis Costello, Modest Mouse).
