There will be preening and big hair and sparkly teeth and pageant waves and “The Music of the South.” The countdown is over. It’s time again for the annual Miss Arkansas pageant, which begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Summit Arena in Hot Springs. KATV’s Jason Harper emcees. Chanley Shae Painter, from the White River region, is my early favorite. Her cause is “smart choices,” which, you know, can always use more exposure. And her musical number is “Fiddle Lightning,” which sounds promising. Also, she doesn’t look dead behind the eyes.

At White Water, Arkansas indie-rock dude Chase Pagan sings plaintively, 9 p.m., $5.
