Tonight! Let’s get cosmopolitan. First: venerable Hillcrest boutique Box Turtle puts on its 5th semi-annual fashion show at Ciao Baci. The boutique’s usual suspects, designers Peach Pavlova, Erin Lorenzen, and Missy Lipps, will be joined by special guest designer 10 year-old Augusta Fitzgerald, who’s unveiling a new skirt-line for girls. Local models will be walking some sort of runway or rafter (or if my suggestion matters for anything, a ropes course) that will look nothing like the one above. Starts at 6:30, but if the crowds at shows of year’s past are any indication, you need to show up early.

Later, say 10ish, Conway’s Jim Mize makes a rare appearance in LR with a show at Sticky Fingerz. Mize is one of our state’s finest songwriters, and he’s got this amazing whiskey-hardened growl of a voice gives his lyrics an extra heft. Plus, and don’t mistake this as an afterthought, he’s got a crack band, who don’t have any qualms about cutting feedback washes into roots rock songs. Much, much recommended.

Take a listen to “Promises We Keep,” perhaps Mize’s finest song.
